You’re trying to move an important change forward, but your leaders don’t agree on the problem or what to do about it. Perhaps you’ve tried before and it hasn’t held. Your teams may be frustrated with each other or worn down by one change after another.
We’ll work through the challenge together: hear the different perspectives, bring fears and disagreements into the open, and choose a way forward your leaders can put into practice.
Why difficult change stalls
When change stalls, it’s natural to turn to your expertise for an answer. But on a complex challenge, people may disagree about both the problem and what will work. No single expert has the whole picture.
You need a way to bring those perspectives together and see around your blind spots. That includes understanding what people are worried about losing. When those concerns go unspoken, they can undo the plan.
What we’ll work on
We’ll start with a challenge your leaders are facing now. Together, we’ll explore what’s happening, generate options, and choose a way forward.
- Naming the challenge. We’ll identify what kind of challenge you’re facing and when to direct and when to facilitate. We’ll frame it as a question that begins “How do we…?” and focuses on what you want to achieve.
- Building shared reality. We’ll gather perspectives from the people the change affects, through surveys, group conversations, or interviews. We’ll draw out agreements, disagreements, and themes before proposing a solution.
- Bringing fears and worries into the open. We’ll name what people are afraid of losing and shape a shared vision that takes those concerns into account.
- Generating options and choosing a way forward. We’ll look beyond the first answer, explore a wider set of options, including small experiments, and decide together.
- Turning the decision into results. We’ll set objectives and key results, each with a directly responsible individual and a due date, and establish a rhythm for checking progress and adjusting.
Along the way, we’ll look at how we react under pressure: defending our own area, taking control, or going along to avoid conflict.
What your leaders leave with
- A shared picture of the challenge, built from the perspectives of the people it affects.
- A way forward they chose together, with objectives and key results, directly responsible individuals, and due dates.
- A regular rhythm to check progress and adjust.
- A process they can use again on the next difficult change.
Who it’s for
Your executive team, a group of dyads and triads, or leaders throughout your organization. We’ll tailor the program to fit your needs.
Optional monthly follow-up
The program can stand on its own, or we can continue with monthly meetings. We’ll review progress with your leadership teams, explore different perspectives, and work through the challenges they’re facing.
